The Death of People Skills

We now live in an age of new thinking. I just read an article that said the majority of college students use AI to write their papers and as a result they are graduating without really learning to think for themselves. AI is here and we can’t put the genie back in the bottle.

We are not raising our kids to be emotionally aware, in fact it’s the opposite. It would be strange to ask Claude or Perplexity if they would be so kind as to help us with this problem we are having. When we ask AI for help we use prompts that start with give me- tell me- or I want-. And the machines respond with certainly or thank you. They are programed to respond with empathy. But we all know they don’t mean it in their heart because machines don’t have a heart. They have ones and zeros.

We have unlearned civility and the most basic people skills.

Maybe our goal should be to somehow some way actually get AI to teach our kids how to be human to each other. Then, maybe just maybe we can get our kids to teach it to us.
