These days, everyone is talking about mindfulness. For some people, the word brings peace and excitement. For others, it brings eye-rolls. But regardless of what you call it—mindfulness, awareness, presence—the point is simple: being more aware has power.
When you are aware of what’s happening right now, you naturally begin to look deeper into the moment. And that leads you to ask a very important question: why?Why am I reacting this way?Why am I doing this habit automatically? Why does this situation affect me?
Recently, I made it a goal to be more aware of my eating. We know that exercise helps, but when it comes to reaching a healthy weight, diet makes the biggest difference. So instead of eating on autopilot, I started asking myself: Do I need to finish this whole plate, or can I save the rest for tomorrow? Am I actually hungry—or am I just used to eating past comfort? My whole life, I’ve eaten as if every meal were my last. Simply shifting to eating until I’m no longer hungry, rather than stuffed, changed everything. My portions decreased. I felt lighter. I lost weight.(If you want proof—go back and look at the older videos.)
This is the power of mindfulness. It helps you pause. It helps you question your routines. It helps you break habits that no longer serve you.
You don’t have to meditate on a mountaintop. You just have to notice what you’re doing and ask why.
Awareness changes everything. When you become aware, you create the possibility of change. Break one automatic habit, and anything becomes possible.
