This mindset is about paying attention to the small opportunities that most people miss every day.
A lot of us want to move through life comfortably — enjoying the moment without overthinking. That’s natural. But there are certain moments where a little awareness can make life smoother, kinder, and more meaningful.
For example, when you see a father with a baby, the automatic reaction might be to say, “She’s adorable — what’s her name?” But if the baby is a boy, you’ve just stepped into an awkward moment. Instead, ask, “What’s your baby’s name?” When he says “David,” everything is simple. No embarrassment. No apology needed.
This is what philosophers like Emerson and Aristotle meant when they encouraged us to live deliberately. You don’t need to sit alone in the woods like Thoreau. You just need to wake up a little more to what’s happening around you.
