Life at a Higher Level: Choosing Perspective Over Stress

When you fly, are you an aisle seat person or a window seat person? Or do you love people so much that you choose the middle seat? I like people, but I’m definitely a window person. When you’re at cruising altitude, there is a certain peace that comes from looking out over such vast distances. Have you ever noticed that the traffic we hate sitting in on the ground looks peaceful and almost beautiful from 30,000 feet? From the sky, we see the world differently.

But how often do we go through our daily lives stuck in the ground view—focused on the annoyances right in front of us instead of the limitless possibilities ahead of us? We see barriers instead of opportunities. We see problems instead of perspective.

Marianne Williamson said, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” That always hits me. Because sometimes the reason we stay stuck in the ground-level view is not because we can’t rise above it, but because we’re afraid of how much higher we’re actually capable of going.

Don’t be afraid to live life at a higher level. Let the small annoyances roll off your back. The people who live with wisdom, courage, and greatness are the ones who take the 30,000-foot view of their experiences and find insight and growth in situations the average person simply complains about. They rise above. They choose perspective over reaction. They choose altitude over attitude.

Your life is bigger than the small frustrations in front of you. Look up. Rise higher.
